How to protect the greenhouse film from birds?

Spring is approaching and birds will arrive soon. What should they do to avoid damaging the greenhouse film?

Dmitry Boiko, an ornithologist at the Latvian Museum of Natural History, explains that birds see insects under the film and try to catch them from outside. The film cover is destroyed by both terns and other small birds with insects on their diet. Likewise, ravenous birds may be inactive.

"In my greenhouse, my parents bleach the film over the load-bearing structures with lime. It prevented the film from overheating and at the same time formed an opaque layer below which the birds could not see the insects. Therefore, the birds did not deteriorate. Of course, this will not prevent a bird from entering a greenhouse through a vent and catching insects from inside," says Dmitry Boiko.

Another good method before attaching the polyethylene film to the greenhouse frame is to apply a white thin agrofilm and then a polyethylene film on top.

Bird repellents. Various bird repellents are also available at point of sale, such as a reflective vest, shiny reflective ribbon. The manufacturer explains that it should be located where the presence of birds is not desired. 7.4 meters of tape costs less than 10 euros. There are also inflatable balls that look like a bird of prey on a drawing. It is promised that the balls will help to repel pigeons as well as small birds like sparrows, swallows. Pack of three balls, they cost a little over 26 euros.

Manufacturers also offer studs that are attached where birds are not desirable.

Dmitry Boiko explains that the film is killed by birds that mostly live in the immediate area. So they will quickly realize that visual deterrents are not harmful and get used to them. The solution could be an opaque film staining or, for example, fixing a fine metal mesh over potentially exposed areas. This will prevent birds from accessing the film and at the same time will not obstruct sunlight. Of course, these will be additional costs.

It should remember that all the tiny birds around the house help to significantly reduce the number of pests, as well as their presence and songs. In any case, the means used to protect the greenhouse must not deter scavengers from the garden. Therefore, it would not be desirable to use electronic repulsion devices with ultrasound, which operate at greater distances and can physically affect and destroy birds.

Voluntary rescuers taught how to protect themselves at sea from an accident

On Wednesday, volunteer rescuers at Grand Holm Marina showed how to properly use safety equipment at sea.

The volunteers explained the difference between a life jacket and a safety vest, an automatic and a semi-automatic vest. The main causes of drowning were explained.

"The biggest mistake is if you don't put on a vest at all, everything starts to hit," said volunteer rescuer Vallo Villa.

According to sea rescuers, people are drowned when the vest is not worn or when they cannot find it in panic.

"A misplaced vest is also dangerous," Vilta warned, modifying last year's accident when the boat overturned and the boat operator sank because the unattached vest came off the water.

"The technical condition of the craft, the weather forecast, the amount of fuel, the means of communication and the existence of documents must always be checked before sailing. The driver or owner of the recreational craft is responsible for all this," the Police and Border Protection Agency recalled in a press release.

"The most important tool for rescue at sea is the life jacket - without it, no recreational craft can begin its journey," the police and border guard warned.

Voluntary rescuers showed themselves how the jackets work. The first step was to show how an unsecured life jacket comes off when it falls into the water. It was then proved that the safety vest does not turn the person on its back, but the life jacket turns. This is important for the unconscious person. A semi-automatic vest was also unhooked in the water.

Volunteer rescuers are advised to always wear a life jacket and fasten it properly!

It can easily become a nightmare for a car trip without some testing and tools

Performing the following checks is important even if we are driving the car with us every day, but especially if we are doing the same for a long time with a family car or camper. Together with the family, in an unknown place, it can be more difficult and costly to fix mistakes than having them done at home, on time.

When examining summer tires, it is essential to check the profile depth, brake system and chassis condition for any visible damage.

Tire pressure can easily be checked at any gas station, but before departure, it is worth considering how many packages you want to start with, as more than average vehicle pressure may be higher than usual.

Higher weight also puts a greater burden on the car's braking system, so it is advisable to start with proper brake pads and brake discs.

Checking the fluid level is also of utmost importance, and in addition to engine oil and coolant, it is worth checking the brake fluid and refilling it if necessary.

The boiling point of used brake fluid is reduced, and what may not be apparent in everyday use can go a long way to causing trouble: a packed car will behave differently.

It can be a serious problem if you are confronted with a serpentine section that the braking effect is reduced and the brake pedal is softened.

For the longer journey, make sure to pack a small one-liter pack of the engine oil required by the car's specification, as you may not be able to get it everywhere abroad, so you can save yourself a lot of headaches with just a few thousand forints. You may not have to say that high-quality wiper fluid mixed with insecticide is essential for longer motorways, it is advisable to stock up with an extra bottle before departure.

It is also advisable to check that the battery is working properly and, in the case of cars with air conditioning, consider the possibility of a timely cleaning. Before the holiday, you can check the efficiency of the cooling with a penny air conditioner, and if you find that the cooling is not real, you should contact your air conditioning service before departure.

Checking for safety equipment is a must before long journeys: provision must be made for a first-aid box, substitutes, a warning triangle, and a mandatory yellow reflective vestwith reflective material.

After that, it is worth checking the car's lighting, as not only is it dangerous to drive with a burned-out light bulb, but in many countries, it is extremely resentful for someone to drive this way - save yourself unnecessary fines!

It is essential to put the luggage, especially the heavier ones, in the boot.

If its capacity is insufficient, roof racks and roof boxes can be useful and important tools for your vacation.

Available in a variety of sizes and finishes, a wide variety of versions available on the roof, rear wall and towbar are expected by all domestic stores.

When towing a caravan or other device, check the electrical connection and the operation of the brake system! If in the slightest doubt you should consult a specialist. Not only do you save yourself a hefty penalty with a few thousand forints, but with the utmost care, you can prevent an accident.

Whether you put a roof rack on your car or a trailer, keep in mind that your behavior will change!

It is also important to have adequate motor and travel insurance when traveling abroad. In these cases, make sure that their territorial scope is adapted to your destination. In the case of a trip abroad, we check that we are safe in the destination country, whatever happens to us or our car.

Cyclists, do not forget the helmet and reflective elements!

Do you love riding on your two-wheeled steed? You should not forget the safety helmet and reflective elements.

The most common mistakes of cyclists include riding without lights and reflective elements or cycling outside the village without a helmet. According to the spokeswoman of the Presidium of the Police Corps of Denisa Balogh, driving in groups next to each other or driving under the influence of alcohol is not exceptional either. The police recall what rules cyclists should follow during their journeys.

It is important, for example, to wear reflective vests, especially at night and in low visibility. "Reflective material is visible at night three times more than white clothing and more than ten times more than blue clothing. By using reflective elements, the cyclists extend the distance the driver can see them," explains the spokeswoman.

Trips with protectors only

At the same time, Balogh recalls that children under the age of 10 can only ride a bicycle unattended on a cycling path, a dirt road, a forest road, or a residential area. Otherwise, they must be under the supervision of a person over 15 years of age who must also be sufficiently competent to supervise them. "When traveling with children, the helmet, the leg protectors and the reflective tapes on the garment should be a matter of course," he adds.

The helmet must have children under 15 years in the village. Other cyclists are obliged to wear it only outside the village. It is important to ensure that cyclists only drive one behind the other on the side or the edge of the road. "Two cyclists can only walk along the bicycle path, and only if they do not restrict and endanger other road users," says Balogh.

Drivers must predict

At the same time, the police appealed to drivers to be considerate of cyclists. "We all know that in the case of a cyclist versus a car, the less protected participant always pulls the shorter end. Therefore, it is important that the motor vehicle driver anticipates what he can do if necessary and responds adequately," says Balogh.

"Keep a sufficient distance from the cyclists to prevent them from happening. As you drive, pay close attention to the right side of the road because of the most likely cyclists," he continues. At the same time, it points out that a right-hand driver is obliged to give priority to a straight-rider. This is not only for the tram driver.

Reflective strips also provided by merchants in jackets and sneakers

Since January, reflective elements are mandatory.

It was Friday afternoon, only five hours. It was dark when the 21-year-old was driving a Fiat Ducato. By car, he headed from Čechyniec to Golianov.

A man went along the same road, pushing a cart in front of him. The young man in Fiat, however, did not notice him at all and took the man in full speed. The walker died after the crash.

Reflective tapein the pocket did not save the life

Police assume that the driver did not pay enough attention to driving and did not monitor traffic properly. But the dark figure with a cart did not have to be seen by the chauffeur, even if he had devoted himself properly to the traffic.

The man was walking between two villages in the dark. He had no reflective elements on his clothes that could strike the chauffeur's eyes and make him slow the car and turn the steering wheel so he couldn't catch the man with the wheelchair.

However, the walker was not entirely without reflective tape. They found her in his coat pocket. "Maybe he could have saved his life," admits Bozena Bruchter, a spokeswoman for the regional police.

Without the risk of taping, we risk

Traffic experts have long said that moving on a dark road without a distinctive glaring outfit or tiny reflective strips on any outfit equals gambling with one's own life.

This is also pointed out by the police, who tried to prepare people for the obligation to wear reflective elements on their clothes, even in towns or villages. This is valid from January and who fails to do so, in addition to their own lives, also fines up to 60 €.

Reflective elements visibly affixed to clothing or directly reflective safety clothing shall be worn by any pedestrian or cyclist in a poorly visible area, following the side or edge of the roadway. "Pedestrians have a new obligation to do this in the municipality if they are on the road - in places where there are no pedestrian paths," Bruchterov points out.

Reflective elements already in clothing

Several addressed residents of the region admitted that although they had heard of the obligation to wear a reflective element, they did not dare to wear tape or vest. "I don't understand why I should be walking around town. And I don't even know where to get such a tape, I haven't registered it in stores," Eva, 30, said.

Jana from Provce, on the other hand, says that they sell reflective elements in several shops. "I'm sure they're in supermarkets," she said.

According to the teacher Maria, many traders have started to place reflective strips directly on pieces of clothing, especially children's clothing. "I've seen them on jackets or sneakers."

Student Jakub is from Jelenec and, as he says, in the area where he lives, there are sidewalks. Even in parts of the village without trails, however, Jakub did not notice that people were wearing reflective tapes.

Reflective elements were lacking in stores mainly at the beginning of the year when changes began to apply. However, merchants are gradually adding these goods. Walking people in risky areas are much more interested in belts, preferring them to reflective vests. They are small and easy to wrap around your arm or foot.

Many of the law has not yet registered or ignored it. This is confirmed by the police, which since the beginning of the year in the Nitra region have taken ten preventive actions aimed at wearing reflective elements.

"In most cases, pedestrians and cyclists do not respect this law. As if they didn't realize how they gamble with their health and life. However, this indifferent behavior also threatens the drivers who see unmarked people on the road at the last minute," the spokeswoman of the regional police said.

The state has hired esbéeska Bonul for construction work

What does it look like when a barracks repair competition is won by a company that has never done anything like this and only guarded the buildings? The construction can also be done by another company, and during the inspection, the workers can put on their reflective vests.

Bonul Security Service has already done various large contracts for the state. Its employees secure and guard the buildings of the Slovak Post, the branch of the Social Insurance Agency or the stores of state material reserves.

Martin Glvč (Direction) still entrusted the firm with a commission in an area that had not been carried out until then: in the spring of this year, a few days before Glvac's resignation, Defense Ministry chose Bonul to repair the Vajnory barracks for nearly three million euros.

The building is to house the soldiers of the NATO liaison team, who will act in Slovakia as a forward unit in case of crisis.

Bono is not known to have experience in building projects. According to available information, he hired real builders from Milanko to arrange the reconstruction.

The company Milanko from Spišsk Nov Ves praised the work on this repair on its website.

Her managers no longer wanted to talk to journalists. "I'm just a site manager, contact Bonul, they will tell you more," said Miroslav Vilček, company director. Bonul refused to answer the questions.

There are stories in the Ministry of Defense that when ministerial control is due to arrive at the construction site, workers will wear Bonulu reflective vests to give the impression that they are a direct winner of the tender.

Known SBS

This is a textbook example of how the government deals with Slovakia. Minister and current vice-chairman of Parliament, Glvac, will quietly make a quick tender to repair the barracks a few days after the elections.

The winner will be Bonul, who has many years of experience in state tenders and at the same time is known for contacts at the direction of Smer - the main character of the company Miroslav Bdr liked to hunt with exminist ubomr Jahntek.

But Bonul specializes in the physical and technical protection of buildings. However, the army needs someone to do the normal construction work - to cut trees, stretch gas pipelines, lay down new asphalt, and rebuild the interior of a multi-story building.

And so Bonul hires a Milanko company that does business in construction. According to her site, this year, for example, insulated the cultural house, reconstructed several pharmacies and modernized hospital premises.

"If a company that does a small amount of work on the contract can win the tender, there is a suspicion that it could have won thanks to good connections. If, on the contrary, the state concluded a contract with a subcontractor, it could significantly save," notes Martin Turček from the Foundation Let's Stop Corruption.

Bonul in secrecy

Daily N asked the Ministry of Defense what the added value of Bonul is when another company is working on the construction site. The Ministry of Communications refused to answer the questions - it refers to the fact that the tender took place in stealth mode.

"This is a contract where it is necessary to protect the basic security interests of the Slovak Republic," explains spokeswoman Daniela Capkov.

Nor did the ministry want to admit that the contract was awarded to esbeska Bonul. "Since the selection of the contractor was based on special security measures, it is not possible to disclose this information," the spokeswoman emphasizes.

A little more communicative was the former Minister Glvč. In his reply, he stressed that the barracks building will be certified as "NATO Secret", so that only a firm with appropriate inspections can do the reconstruction. "The condition for participation was a NATO certificate," writes Glvč.

The paradox, however, is that while Bonul has the required certificates, Milanko is likely to be another case. The National Security Authority's website does not include any companies that would have the appropriate confirmation from the state.

Milenko does not inform about any security certificates on his website. Diary N asked director Vilcek, whether his company has any verification. "I don't know, contact Bonul," was the answer.

For NATO money

The story around the construction order has one more dimension. The building near Vajnory, whose reconstruction is provided by Bonul or Milanko, will be of strategic importance for the whole of Slovakia.

The task of the twenty NATO foreign soldiers residing there is to prepare the ground in case foreign troops have to come here for threats from the East.

Alliance members agreed to set up such a team two years ago and later the Slovak government agreed. Therefore, most construction costs should not be borne by Slovakia, but by NATO funds.

Under normal circumstances, the Alliance requires that such contracts be conducted with an international tender, in which certified companies from all Member States may participate.

Glvac's ministry, however, according to information from N, has requested an exemption so that it can only conduct a domestic tender, explaining that it is in a time constraint.

However, NATO auditors will review the project after its completion. If they found that the contract was overpriced, Slovakia would have to pay part of its costs from its budget and still shame among its allies.

Taxi drivers are not "yellow vest"

It is not enough to put on a yellow reflective vest to be a "yellow vest". The taxi drivers of Barcelona and Madrid have dressed in yellow to imitate the French movement, but between the two mobilizations, there are more differences than similarities. The only coincidences are the condition of victims of globalization, the relationship with the automotive world - the French "yellow vests" need it to work and live, like taxi drivers in Spain - and the drift in episodes of violence - much higher in France.

Everything else is differences. The first is that the taxi drivers' rebellion is sectoral, while that of the "yellow vests" is social. The revolt of taxi drivers is much more similar to the one in France in 2008 when Nicolas Sarkozy, following the recommendations of the economist Jacques Attali, set out to liberalize the sector, monopolized in Paris by 16,000 licenses that belonged in large part to the same company. The attempt to raise the number of taxis to 50,000 or 60,000 and grant a free license to the 6,500 aspiring taxi drivers on the waiting list provoked a furious response from the drivers, who blocked cities, roads, and airports until the government withdrew the measures. The monopoly was such that Paris had then (2008) the same licenses as in the 30s of the twentieth century and the conflict ended with the authorization of barely half a thousand more. Now changing the license increase due to VTC competition,

Another big difference is that the movement of the taxi drivers is urban while that of the 'yellow vests' is rural. Taxi drivers have blocked the two main cities, Barcelona and Madrid, while in France, despite the most numerous and violent demonstrations have taken advantage of the Paris showcase, the protest has arisen in medium and small cities, between 5,000 and 20,000 inhabitants, what the geographer Christophe Guilluy calls "peripheral France", analysis that other experts argue that many of these areas are poles of economic and cultural dynamism. According to the historian Pierre Rosanvallon, it is a heterogeneous movement both sociologically and ideologically, composed of employees and modest retirees belonging to a forgotten middle and popular strata, absent from the social debate, invisible until now, and hence the choice of the fluorescent yellow vest with reflective tapeto gain visibility. Some five million French people can integrate these fringes.

Different solutions

The solutions to both conflicts also differ. In Spain, there will be no alternative but to combine a super-regulated sector such as the taxi sector with a much more liberalized sector such as vehicles with driver. The solution must consider a balance between the two - less regulation of the taxi and more of the VTC, but without measures that annul one of the parties and taking into account that new forms of mobility facilitated by new technologies have come to stay and they cannot be eliminated because that would be like putting doors into the field.

In France, the solution is much more complex because the 'yellow vests' have only been the alarm bell of deeper realities that not only have to do with the ravages of savage globalization, but also with the defects of political representation. The sociologist and philosopher Edgar Morin believes that "the 'yellow vests' are the sign of a crisis of faith. Crisis of faith in the State, in institutions, in parties, in democracy ". France is now in full therapy, with the national debate sparked by President Emmanuel Macron in his letter to the French whereby mayors and citizens who so wish can discuss solutions on four themes - ecology, taxation, and public services, citizenship and democracy and state organization - for two months. For a president so arrogant, individualistic and far from the people, it is already a big change, but, as the French intellectual of Moroccan origin Tahar Ben Jelloun says, "Macron has a lot to learn, not only about how to manage a country but on its own deficiencies, its defects, and its weak points, on time, which has been very lenient with it".

Anti-paparazzi reflective clothing spoils shots taken with flash

Chris Holmes, working as a DJ on the world tours of Paul McCartney, was often upset when his spectacular clothes with reflective fabricsspoiled the photos taken with the flash, creating strong reflections and overexposure. And once upon a time inspiration came to Holmes - why not turn the "harmful" effect into a useful one?

The idea is to create a collection of clothes with the strongest reflective properties designed for people who do not want unwelcome intrusions into their private lives and who would NOT like to get well in the pictures. First of all, these are, of course, celebrities, who are besieged by unaware paparazzi photographers.

The "Anti-paparazzi" collection, if it is actually released (an important reservation), will initially consist of a jacket, a scarf and a jacket with a hood. Each element is made of special reflective materials that look cute in normal conditions, but very strongly reflect light when illuminated with flashlights.

Currently, Chris Holmes is trying to get support on the Betabrand Think Tank website - a platform where visitors can vote for ideas that, in their opinion, are worthy of being translated into real products.

The reflective vest was allowed not to carry

The amendments to the traffic rules regarding the presence of a reflective vestin the car, which came into force in March of this year, turned out to be nothing more than a recommendation for a sensible driver.

In March 2018, an amendment to the traffic rules began to operate in Russia, according to which every driver should wear a reflective vest in a car and wear it if necessary. Here is the verbatim text of clause 2.3.4 of the rules: "In the event of a forced stopping of a vehicle or a traffic accident outside human settlements at night, or in conditions of limited visibility while being on the carriageway or side of the road, wearing a jacket, vest or vest-cap with strips of retro-reflective material that meet the requirements of GOST 12.4.281—2014".

In the media, various assumptions and interpretations arose immediately about how and when DPS officers would fine drivers for the lack of a reflective vest in a car. In this regard, the head of the Duma Committee on Labor and Social Policy, Yaroslav Nilov, prepared and sent a request to Head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate General Mikhail Cherikov asking for clarification whether the patrol officer had the right to require the vest from him when checking documents from the driver. And also to answer the question: what sanctions can follow if there is no vest in the car.

The other day, the traffic police came to answer the request of the deputy Nilov. In it, the first deputy head of the traffic police of the Russian Federation, General Vladimir Shvetsov, clearly and unequivocally stated that "road patrol officers are not entitled to require the driver of the vehicle to present a vest or jacket with reflective material when checking documents or performing other administrative procedures. Administrative responsibility for the absence of a vest in a vehicle or driver is not provided for. "

And since no one has the right to check and punish for the lack of a vest in the car or on the driver, in fact, it is allowed not to carry the retro-reflective clothing in the car. Another thing is that any sane driver, and without any instructions, will attend to this accessory and, if necessary, will put it on himself - simply by obeying the instinct of self-preservation.

Camelbak Nano High Capacity in the Minimum Space

How? That is a backpack of 150 grams we can carry up to 1 liter of hydration, the smartphone, nutrition, windbreaker, hat or buff, gloves, and the walking sticks. And also, can we get the sticks moving, incredibly fast, without taking our backpack?

By Juan Gonzlez

Juan Gonzlez is a collaborator of Territorio Trail Media and our expert in material and tester.

When a point arrives in which it seems that everything or almost everything is invented, the Camelbak Americans arrive, and they remove a backpack-vest from the design table, with a reduced weight without sacrificing comfort at all or durability (important), building a practical product, with the main characteristic of being able to carry canes comfortably, and that is also easy to remove when we see the need to use them.

HOW IS IT DISTRIBUTED?

The front part is practically identical to its sister catalog Ultra Pro Vest 4'5L, That is, we find in the upper part of the braces a large capacity zip pocket (left strap) in nylon, with generous handy knob very practical for use with gloves and trimmed with reflective tape. It is a bellows type pocket, and thanks to this, we can introduce our smartphone. In the right strap we have a flap pocket of the same size as the left side, but with superior access, and instead of being constructed with nylon, we have used the breathable and soft elastic Ketten mesh, seen in other brands as well. Next, to this pocket, we find the silvato, which in a certain way, I find curious, and somewhat disconcerting, since it is not a backpack destined to ultra distance, where it is a mandatory element.

In the lower part of the braces, in the classic layout of the models of the house, we have the pockets reserved for the hydration system, a Quick Stow on each side, 500ml each. Currently, and in my opinion, the best soft drums in the market.

To fasten the backpack we have the minimalist straps Customizable in height (8 links), the upper one in a rigid spiked belt to guarantee a firm fit (ideal in descents), and the lower one in the same width but in elastic rubber to have a tolerance, when we tilt the torso (in the climbs), and we do not need so much firmness of adjustment.

On the sides have 4 pockets -in total- inelastic mesh, that is, on each side we have 2 pockets superimposed, on 2 levels with a different inclination in their access, to find them to the touch in a somewhat easier way. The pocket that is more towards the outside communicates one side with another, giving us the possibility to further expand the cargo space and access it with any hand.

REAR PART, THERE WE FIND YOUR ESSENCE.

Certainly, the back is the one that most arouses me. We have as a main compartment diaphanous and open laterally the mesh that dominates the backpack exteriorly. Here we can introduce a jacket, which will be fixed to the back thanks to the compression of the fabric itself. Although it is not a zippered compartment, the side openings are not so large that we can get the content out, since we can also move it down, so that it is "embedded" in the lower part. In spite of how small this compartment seems, it is curious what we can get to introduce!

On this compartment, and in the outer-low area of the backpack, we see a pocket that occupies a third of the back. This pocket made of resistant Rip-Stop nylon and bellows type structure. On the outside, it has a spiked ribbon (identical to the upper chest strap), which will be great for placing a rear light of clip type position. Near the shoulders and above the main compartment, we see two diagonal ribbons of 3 cm of width (on the left printed the name of the model, and on the right that of the mark in reflective) that together with the lower pocket mentioned above, are 3 elements that play a fundamental and essential role of this backpack.

It's time to put on your backpack! And you want to see if it really works Camelbak's invention to carry the canes.

3 tips for running in the dark

Especially in winter, when the sun rises late, sets early and there is summer time, it is inevitable to go out in the dark, or in poor lighting conditions. And unfortunately there is not always a way to run on exclusive tracks for runners and closed to traffic: we often end up running on the street and on the sidewalks with the consequent dangers given by the traffic of cars and motorcycles.

When you go out running in the dark it is essential to think first of all about your safety, trying to be as visible as possible. In at least three ways.

1. Use clothing with reflective materials

Especially in the winter running clothing lines all brands now include reflective tapesor fluorescent colors at will: look for those with the highest high visibility surface (and obviously forget uniformly colored jackets and tight).

2. It especially highlights moving parts

Put yourself in the shoes of a motorist absorbed in his thoughts: he will see you better, first and more clearly if he sees something illuminated moving on his horizon. Then add reflective bands to legs, arms and if you can even to shoes (you can also use reflective tape on the heel).

3. Use intermittent lights

For the same reason, intermittent lights will more easily catch the attention of a motorist than fixed lights: so ok the headlamp, but also hold a torch, or attach a small light bulb to the forearm, and put them in intermittent mode.

Bike helmets in the test

The winter is over and we can dare to go back to the bikes. 70 percent of the Germans do not wear a helmet and reflective vest, but a serious head injury is the most common accident when falling from a bicycle!

Bicycle helmets are not only mandatory for children. The adults are not all-rounders and mistakes are human - you do not even have to blame yourself. A good bike helmet does not hurt, is light and even looks sporty. You do not have to spend tons of money on it. For 30 euros you get a helmet that is comfortable and qualitative. And as long as you do not end up on the head, you do not have to buy a new one, so put on a helmet!

Bicycle helmets come in many different shapes and colors. Depending on whether you only occasionally make a trip, every day to work or off for sporting reasons, you should adjust his requirements for the helmet. For sports riders, there are even helmets with visor, then you can even get on the saddle in winter and in summer this is a perfect insect repellent.

Even for biking at night, there are helmets with LEDs recently, so you are seen in the dark from afar. But eye-catching helmet colors also ensure passive safety.

Bike helmets in the test

The test portal Alles Beste has seen ten new bicycle helmets. The new test winner Uvex City Light was chosen. He is comfortable, has a sunscreen, night lighting and also the shutter is very convenient. For this helmet, however, you have to take a bit more money into your hands. But even for the small purse, there are other good recommendations.

Sports cyclists should be enthusiastic about the Casco Roadster. He has a visor and a great shape, which surrounds the head even more than ordinary bicycle helmets. He is still lightweight and has a high wearing comfort. Separate earmuffs make this helmet even winterproof. Reflective stripes also guarantee this model a high level of road safety. This helmet is also a bit more expensive, but for regular use, this is worth the investment. For the small purse, the test portal Alles Beste can recommend the Cratoni Pacer +. It comes with everything a good bike helmet needs to have: comfort, lightness, sun protection and easy handling. The helmet, which does not even cost 30 euros, is available in many colors.

Driving with a bike carrier: the precautions to take

No matter what type of bike rack you have chosen, when going on vacation, it will be necessary to be careful of the conduct to take to be serious. A vehicle with a bike carrier is not driven in the same way as without a bike carrier. It is for this reason that each person is expected to have a great responsibility to avoid creating disturbances on public roads.

The holidays are often conducive to this type of event: the overload of the vehicle with the business of each, the 2 or 3 children. The car quickly becomes full. The weight of a bike and/or a roof box can seriously affect the ability to ride safely. A heavy car does not stop like a light car. There are several precautions to take into account to avoid creating a huge mistake.

In this article, we will give you many tips to avoid having problems and the different precautions to take into consideration to not receive a fine, when returning from vacation.

How to drive with a bike carrier without problems?

First of all, we must remember that there are 4 types of bike carriers. There is one that is placed only inside certain vehicles. We are going to start on three different types of bike racks, the aim of which is to provide an effective solution for the driver who wants to go on a mop with his or her bikes.

The roof rack is certainly the most dangerous element in some situations. This is particularly the case when there is a lot of wind. The management of aerodynamics is far from being of high quality with 1, 2, 3 or 4 bikes on the roof. The wind will rush everywhere and it will slow down your car. If you are unaware of this, it can be a hazard in braking management or on some steep hill climbs.

To ride quietly with a bike rack with rails that tighten on the roof, it is important to secure all bikes securely so that they cannot move and fall, either forward when braking or in back in the climb of a coast or its descent.

For the other bike carriers, the difficulty is much less important, as for the system which is placed on a ball of coupling. The consequences will be almost the same as with a bike rack that will be placed on the trunk of the car. These are usually the wheels that will exceed the width of the vehicle that may cause some problems. In this case, the first thing to do is to prevent the wheels from spinning with speed. A simple strap will do the trick and the vehicle ahead will not be disturbed in its conduct. The second action to be performed is especially valid for the night when the brightness is low. We will specify that it is not because you have planned to leave by day, that you will be able to be sure of returning by day. Just have in his car, a small device to be seen. This lighting system must be waterproof and be closer to the car that will follow you, so it can better calculate and effectively manage its safety distances. By realizing this little trick, you will avoid having damaged bikes (in the case of a low pace) or a serious accident (for higher speeds). This can be a reassuring element, that of placing reflectors on the wheels of bicycles so that they are reflected with the headlights of other vehicles. If, however, you do not have this light device, it will imperatively be necessary to put the number plate. It includes a reflective materialto be seen. But it's much less effective than a flashing red light.

The last advice we can bring is to be serene in his behavior and to redouble his vigilance. Do not lower your guard, respect the Highway Code and do not hesitate to take breaks to avoid all the small errors of inattention.

Precautions to take before riding with a bike rack

Well before the start, it would be interesting to perform one or more tests to avoid being surprised when going on vacation. As soon as you have the bike rack, install it. You have to understand how it works so you do not get caught off guard. Some systems are more complex than others. You have to tame them before going on a long journey. In addition to the installation, take the time to ride with the bike carrier and another person in another car if possible. He can tell you, once stopped, if the bike carrier moves and if so, perform the actions accordingly.

At the time of bike rack purchase, did you inquire about the maximum capacity that the bike rack can accommodate? Whether for the overall weight or the number of bikes, you have to make sure everything is good and can receive the number of bikes you want to put on it.

For people who are a bike carrier, it must be sure that the total capacity transported (bicycles and bike racks) is fully compatible with what your hitch indicates.

All the parts of your vehicle that make it possible to communicate must be visible, namely the taillights, the license plate, and the turn signals. The signaling ramp for the license plate may prove to be a good solution.

Even at the turn of a short break to run errands or his needs, we are never safe from theft. More and more people are complaining that their bike has been caught. You have to invest in a good lock, in which you trust to be quiet!

During the journey, especially for long journeys, make sure that the bike clips are perfectly fixed and do not move.

Finally, in the case of a lesser suspicious noise, do not hesitate to stop and do a check, rather than taking unnecessary risks.

A hot atmosphere in Paris, meaning Yellow Vests and climate

The fact that the French have a political temperament is known at least since the revolution in 1789. Has the unprecedented scale and brutality of the current protests foretold a new breakthrough for decades?

Revolutions have it that even when they last, it is still unknown whether they will lead to a change in the political regime. The attack on the Bastille on 14 July 1789 did not foretell the decapitation of Louis XVI, terror or the slaughter of Wanda. So what is today's rebellion of "yellow shirts"? An ordinary safety vestthat escapes police control and the organizers themselves? Do you foretell the arrival of a new society?

The pretext of the protests, as everyone knows, is simply - an increase in the tax on car fuel motivated by the need to reduce emissions of greenhouse gasses. Not so great, though painful of course. But enough to trigger such a violent reaction?

The fall of the province

The answer to this question is provided by the sociology of the French province. The French senior sociologist Alain Touraine writes briefly about her in her latest book, Defense de la modernit, noting that France as a result of globalization shared the beneficiaries of this process living in the world metropolises, Paris and Lyon, to a lesser extent Bordeaux and Toulouse.

The rest of the country has been deindustrialized and followed by regressive modernization, ie washing out good jobs, high-quality public services, and infrastructure. Whoever drives the French province knows what the problem is. Even the once-large metropolis of the French Empire of Marseilles is falling into disrepair.

The birth of counter-society

Of course, France is still a very rich country and French poverty is not always Polish poverty, but in a structural sense, the situation is even worse. Why? Because jobs from industrial plants located in the French interior have moved outside of France, including to Central Europe, also to Poland. As a result, the inhabitants of the French province are convinced that the Parisian elite has left them alone. As Christophe Guilluy, a geographer who researches French territorial divisions for years writes, besides metropolises, counter-societies have been born forced to deal with outside public institutions.

One of the foundations of this autonomy is the mobility that serves to meet the everyday needs of the fast-growing and losing status of the provincial middle class: artisans, farmers, small entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, pensioners. The vehicle is a mobility instrument because the development of the metropolitan high-speed rail infrastructure took place at the expense of neglecting regional and local connections.

Attack on autonomy

The increase in fuel prices was thus perceived as a direct Paris attack in the very nerve of counter-society developing in the province - its autonomy. This is much more than just an economic disadvantage resulting from the price increase. In addition, justification - climate protection reveals the hypocrisy of metropolitan elites. After all, in Paris you can live well without a car, using publicly subsidized public transport, drive around the TGV country in the deficit French rail system and fly around the world with airplanes to which fuel is burdened with much smaller taxes.

Guilluy has long predicted a fracture, he wrote about it at the Crepuscule de la France d'en Haut in 2016. The symptom of anger was not only the results of the 2017 election, in which the province voted for either the radical right-wing Marine Le Pen or the radical left Mlenchon. The symptom overlooked in the context of the fuel tax increase was the reduction of the permitted speed on local roads from 90 to 80 km / h. This decision of the new government has already provoked quite a piss on the provinces, whose inhabitants have miscalculated the safety of Paris for the extra time that will be needed to deal with all the daily matters dealt with by means of a car.

Climate and class struggle

It turns out that the abstract concern for the climate analyzed through the prism of social complexity takes on the expression of the class struggle, behind which a profound political conflict emerges. As Alain Touraine writes, the industrial society has ended forever. The French province cannot reindustrialize. However, it cannot be cut off from the metropolis by limiting mobility, because then it will come uninvited, showing anger and destruction. The problem is that a new post-industrial society that would redefine social justice and institutionalize and control its main conflict has never been invented anywhere.

Reflective tapes at pedestrian crossings

Toruń is the first city in Poland where reflective tapes will be located at dangerous pedestrian crossings. Passing through the road after dark will be better visible.

Our province is the second region in Poland where most pedestrians are killed.

According to the police, accidents with their participation in 2016 constituted as much as 28 percent. the total number of accidents (the average in Poland is 25.1). There were also more fatal accidents than in 2015. There were 45 pedestrians per 178 deaths in general (about 5% more).

The "Safety improvement program at pedestrian crossings and crossings for cyclists in Toruń", which will end in 2019, has been implemented in Toruń since last year.

By that time, the city will spend PLN 5.6 million on investments to improve security. There have already been red rides for cyclists, "cat's eyes", new barriers, signaling devices and so-called. refugees. This year, we will spend a total of PLN 1.9 million for further improvements of this type.

A joint police action, Municipal Road Administration and the Regional Road Traffic Center named Toruń will start in Toruń from Monday. Take-Expand-Go-leave. On some pedestrian crossings, there are reflective bands. After dark, to safely go zebra, he will take the blindfold, develop it, pass it and leave it on the stick.

"This is just a proposition. Pedestrian is not obliged to use this solution because it does not result from applicable traffic regulations," emphasizes Ryszard Nagrski from Toruń WORD.

If the action receives recognition and approval among residents, it will be expanded. "This is the first project of this type in Poland and I hope that it will work," says Michał Zaleski, President of Toruń.

Who will park in the old town for free?

The program to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists is carried out in three stages. In the first of these, which will end this year, activities are carried out at educational institutions, hospitals, and outpatient clinics and along national road No. 91. Next year will come time for selected and gmina roads where incidents occur most frequently, and the third stage falls on 2018-2019 and covers the remaining roads of the commune.

Joint actions of "Cyclist"

The policemen from Chorzw and Siemianowice joined their forces and conducted measures aimed at cyclists this time.

In the two cities, the uniforms controlled their sobriety, technical condition, and equipment of two-wheelers. They also checked whether the bikes were not stolen.

The weather is good for cyclists

Better weather, speed, and ease of movement, as well as physical activity that is good for health, encourage cycling. Residents got used to the control of drivers, but the police during the service on the road do not forget about cyclists. Yesterday, together with the Siemianowice road route, they conducted "Cyclist" activities. From morning traffic patrols in two cities paid particular attention to the management of two-wheelers. The policemen checked the sobriety of cyclists, equipment and technical condition of two-wheelers.

Cyclists, like pedestrians, are unprotected road users who are at risk of losing their lives and health even at low collision speeds. When getting on a bike, we should remember this and always follow the elementary safety rules. One of them is visibility on the road. Certainly, a reflective vestand efficient bicycle lights will make the driver aware of the cyclist in advance. However, wearing a helmet is the most effective way to relieve head injuries resulting from both bicycle and motorcycle accidents. Let's also take care of the proper technical condition of the bicycle - brakes, lights, sound signal. When organizing bicycle family trips, it is worth knowing that a child under 7 years of age can be transported on a bicycle, provided it is placed on an additional saddle ensuring safe driving. Child, who is 10 years old, can now drive a bicycle on public roads on condition that he has a bicycle card. Below this age, a small cyclist should move on the principles of pedestrian traffic under the care of an adult. Then, along with the guardian, he can ride a bicycle along the sidewalk, while on the road he should move on the left side.

Reflectors can save lives

Rain, snow and strong wind accompany us in the autumn and winter. Road conditions are considerably worse then. Although there are less than 40 days to the beginning of astronomical winter, it's worth taking care of your safety now.

As it gets darker and faster, remember about reflections. Thanks to them, pedestrians are visible from a greater distance. Even the youngest know it. "You can see us in the dark and the person is more visible," says one of the students of the schools in Nowy Sącz. "We are then more secure and visible," his colleague adds.

Let's also remember that outside the built-up area, we have a duty to have a reflective element. "Regulations impose an obligation on pedestrians who move outside built-up areas after dark. Then we have a duty to have a reflective vest with us," informs Iwona Grzebyk-Dulak, a spokesman for the police from Nowy Sącz.

There may be a fine of 20 to 500 zlotys for breaking this provision. According to the police spokesman, a driver traveling at 80 or 90 km / h, there is no chance of slowing down and he notices a pedestrian practically at the time of the deduction. The situation is different when the pedestrian has a reflective element with reflective tape. Then the driver sees a pedestrian from a distance of about 130 - 150 meters, which is five times faster. In other words, such a reflective element can save our lives.

Roadmaps should also be prepared for changing the conditions on the roads. It's time to change tires. There is a fundamental difference between how summer and winter tires behave on wet and slippery roads. "The summer tire under the influence of low temperatures hardens and becomes very slippery. The winter tire gives you a better grip. It has more cuts that channel out the water squeezed out of the snow, and allow it to be pressed on the ice," explains Wiesław Kądziołka, deputy director of the Sędzi Mord-u.

Drivers should also remember to check the technical condition of their vehicle. When slippery roads are on the road, it is also worth maintaining a greater distance between cars.

The autumn-winter weather introduces many hazards on the roads. They affect both drivers and pedestrians. Although the regulations require to have a reflection in an unbuilt area, it is worth having such an element in any other situation, like sew reflective fabricon clothing, wear reflective tapes. Drivers should also be more cautious with worse visibility and more difficult road conditions.

Traffic restrictions at cemeteries in All Saints

Changes in the organization of road traffic during the "Znicz 2018" action:

1) Cemetery in Krzepicach on ul. Czestochowa

From 15.00 on Wednesday, October 31 to hours. 6:00 on Friday, November 2, on the street Ryły, one direction will be introduced. Dabrowski. Entry into ul. Ryły from ul. Czestochowa. Cars will be able to park at specially designated locations on the west side of Ryły street.

2) Cemetery in Kłobuck at DK 43

On Thursday, November 1, the police will direct the traffic to streamline the entry and exit of cars from the parking lot next to the cemetery.

We remind you of the most important rules that will help us during this time:

If possible, use public transport. Special bus and tram lines will be "privileged" in traffic and will take us to where the private car will not be able to enter, let alone park.

Do not drive by car "by heart". In the areas of cemeteries, on the access roads to them, a temporary traffic organization will be introduced. Pay attention to road signs!

Remember - commands of a traffic policeman are more important than traffic signals and road signs!

If a policeman forbids entry, then there is no time for discussion and getting into polemics. You have to follow the instructions.

Park the car in accordance with regulations, in approved places. Do not be selfish, make sure that your car does not block the entry or exit of the road or access to a previously correctly parked vehicle.

People who decide to go to the cemetery on foot should use the sidewalks. If they are not there, they are obliged to move along the side of the road, the left side of the road, remembering that the road is for cars and the time spent on pedestrians on it should be as short as possible. It is good to have a reflective vestor flashlight with you.

In the vicinity of the necropolis, in addition to traffic patrols, there will be non-uniformed policemen who will pay attention to pickpockets and other perpetrators of crimes, wanting to use our inattention and distraction. Therefore, do not leave valuable items in the car in a visible place. They can become easy prey to thieves.

Textile Spray Life Paint is invisible in daylight

Volvo's UK marketing department stirs the season once again the appropriate drum for the highly reflective textile spray Life Paint, the non-motorized road users for motorists more or less unmistakable, if it is generously applied to the clothes or even the bike. The spray is invisible during the day or without being illuminated and should stick to fabric for about a week. Meant is meanwhile that Volvo UK stirs the drum for the spray, but also sells it online only to customers in the UK. Nevertheless, one can buy the reflective materialin this country, albeit in a comparatively ugly box: Manufacturer of the spray is namely the company Albedo100 and their Reflective Spray Invisible Bright's at Amazon for 13.90 Euro.

PURCHASING CIRCULAR BUSINESS DRESSES: THIS IS WHAT TBI, DURA VERMEER, AND ALLIANDERS DO

What do you encounter when you buy circular work safety clothing? The companies TBI and Dura Vermeer and network operator Alliander started a pilot in 2015 with the support of Rijkswaterstaat, Rebus and MVO Nederland to make corporate clothing circular. That appears to be a growth process that requires a long breath and an open attitude.

The safety vest seemed to be a good and well-arranged product to start small. But the practice proved more difficult.

David Mannessen, a buyer at Alliander, explains: "Our safety clothing is subject to multi-standards: antistatic, fire-retardant, waterproof, resistant to chemicals ... That makes it difficult to get the vests circular. Retrieving the raw material is difficult, but also processing it into new clothing that meets the same strict standards. "

Another stumbling block turned out to be the volume. If you produce 1000 circular vests per company, as the idea was, then they are priceless and no supplier binds to such an order. And with only three companies in a pilot, larger orders are out of the question.

Another factor is that the costs of retrieving the safety vest and re-entering the chain weigh heavily on a relatively inexpensive product such as a safety vest with reflective tape. The costs to return the item to yarn are still unclear, a 10 to 20% extra charge.

Search for producers

That is why Dura Vermeer and TBI finally decided to work with a wider package of work clothes.

Procurement manager Bjorn Smeets of Dura Vermeer describes how he experienced the search for producers. "In the beginning, I thought: we just have to inform the market and it does the work. But we had to pull the cart ourselves. For example, to find reusable substances. The chain depends on an enormous amount of links, with many cross-links. For example, a producer can have a share in a weaving mill in the Far East. Transparency and openness in the total chain is still a challenge.

Alliander buyer Mannessen explains that when looking for a supplier he is not so much interested in the price, but in the costs of circular work clothes.

"Where do they come from? I want to pay for the value in the end. For that, you have to include the entire life cycle of a garment in the costs and ultimately the multiple cycles that it can go through. That proved difficult to make transparent. "

Product group manager Arco Vroegindeweij of Croonwolter & dros (part of TBI) adds: "You assume that clothing made with the knowledge and technology of today can be put back in the chain. But nobody knows exactly what that costs. Even if you know the costs of today, you are not there yet. What will the market prices of basic raw materials be like in three years? That has a major impact on the value of clothing. "

This mind shift was really getting used to, reports Smeets. "Previously, corporate clothing was a catalog item. Until you have a sustainability objective. Then you really have to fully delve into the business case of your contract partner or the chain. "

Complicated collection process

Collecting worn clothing is also a point. Not all clothing can get a second life, Mannessen points out.

"They consist of, for example, a mixed material that we cannot yet dismantle. You also have to find out in detail: what is the quality, and especially the degree of pollution? At Dura Vermeer, they have to deal with asphalt and concrete splashes, and with us for example with oil. That influences the process. "

Smeets from Dura Vermeer sketches a follow-up question: "If you have clothing produced in Asia, but you have your return flow here, how do you link it together?" And does an old item of clothing become a new item of clothing, or is it reused elsewhere? You have to form an opinion about that. "

Contracts for workwear packages

Despite all the challenges, major steps have been taken. After about a year, Dura Vermeer commissioned three market parties in 2015 for the further development of a softshell, a parka and rain trousers, of which 85% of the material can be reused.

Intersafe is the leader of the project, Dutch Awareness the director and Tricorp the producer. TBI recently joined this.

Alliander strives for 100% circularity in the long term and wants to launch a tender for this in 2017.

IDEAL IN SUMMER AND WINTER: WHITE ROADS

There are already a number of reflective roads in Noord-Holland, one to be added this week. They are also trying it out in Amsterdam and Hoofddorp, and since this spring you also see them in, yes, Los Angeles. Their workers who wear reflective vests painted a special coating over the roads, making them white. It saved no less than ten degrees. Dark colors absorb light, which makes it warmer. White, on the other hand, deflect the heat. You also notice that when wearing a white or black t-shirt in the summer.

Heat in the city

Piet Zijlstra is an engineer and designs highways. He is responsible for the white roads in the Netherlands. Our summers are getting warmer because of climate change. Especially in cities, the temperatures can rise considerably because the heat is difficult to dissipate due to the buildings. An annoying side effect is that even more hazardous substances are emitted by cars.

Safe cycling

But the new roads have even more advantages. It is also much safer in the winter. Just consider: if you cycle in the dark, you are much more visible on a white road than on gray asphalt. This means that street lighting does not have to be as bright, and that also saves energy.

Less spectacular

The reflective roads in the Netherlands, at first sight, look less spectacular than in Los Angeles. That is because Zijlstra would rather not use the coating. According to him, it wears out much faster. He mixes the asphalt with very fine gravel, which is called crushed stone. When quite a few cars drive over it, it wears out and the white slowly appears.

Vests that save your life

The General Directorate of Traffic launches in Galicia a prevention campaign against the increase in deaths due to hitting the roads

It is a campaign of distribution of reflective vests after, so far this year, 7 deaths have already been recorded, half of those killed in the last year.

The sub-delegation of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, together with the provincial director of Traffic, Paula Yubero and the captain of the traffic subsector of the Civil Guard, Leovigildo Villares, distributed today reflective vests with reflective tapes to the pilgrims who were circulating along the N-550 highway in the municipality of Valga.

Today begins this campaign to prevent road accidents in order to raise awareness among peons and other users with whom they live, about the importance of being seen on the road and thus ensure that they are seen by vehicle drivers.

Of the 1,180 deaths in the interurban roads in Spain last year, a total of 131 were pawns in this type of road. As regards Pontevedra, the data for 2018 shows the number of 4 pedestrians who died on the interurban road, 1 of them on the highway. There are also 2 cases of abuse on urban roads and 2 on crossings.

Precisely, in this year, in the interurban road, registered two fatal cases of abuse, one of them in the municipality of Valga, where the campaign was presented as indicated by the sub-delegation of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba.

Speaking of road safety, the Civil Guard intercepted in the vicinity of the O Campio industrial estate in Pontevedra, a passenger car that traveled at 123 km/h on a stretch of track limited to 50 km/h. The driver of the vehicle tested positive for alcohol and drugs.

It was at dawn, the driver, 24 years old and neighbor of Pontevedra, was detected by a radar team of the Traffic Detachment of the Civil Guard of Pontevedra, in one of the access roads to this polygon, at an excessive speed, 73 km/h above the legal limit.

The serious irresponsibility of this young driver, who already only had a balance of nine points on the driver's license, can be accompanied by the deduction of 18 points and with it the loss of the validity of his driving license, in addition to a penalty Economic € 2,600.

The bands at Atrium, delimited with ... beacons

Given that since the traffic lanes have been withdrawn from Atrium Mall shopping center, many light or worse accidents have occurred, Road Police officers and local police who wear reflective clothinghave decided to come up with ... beacons.

The balloons were mounted in the afternoon of November 14, and the local police guided the drivers, showing them where and how they should fit in order to keep the lane correctly.

"The local police officers within the Public Road and Car Park Traffic Services 3 together with traffic police officers at the IPJ Arad Road Bureau placed reflective beacons, according to the road markings, on Aurel Vlaicu Road in the Atrium Mall area, to force / urge drivers Regular movements, this action being approved in the Circulation System Commission on 09.11.2018. We ask the drivers to observe the road markings and signs in the area and to circulate cautiously ", the representatives of the Local Police sent.
